The heart muscle is known as the myocardium and when your doctor suspects a problem with the heart muscle, a biopsy is recommended. Myocardial Biopsy involves removing a small piece of tissue for examination using a small catheter called a bioptome. A myocardial biopsy is often performed during cardiac catheterization or other heart tests and sometimes they are performed on its own.
