Safe Exercises for Heart Disease

If you have been diagnosed with heart disease or had a heart surgery, your doctor probably will advise you that exercise is an important part of keeping the condition under control. General workout tips for heart disease patients are:

  • Exercise should be paced and balanced with rest.
  • Avoid exercises such as push-ups or sit-ups as these exercises involve straining muscles.
  • Avoid exercising in the outdoors when it is too cold, hot, or humid.
  • It is important to stay hydrated.
  • Extremely hot/cold showers or sauna baths should be avoided after exercise as extreme temperatures increase the workload on your heart.
  • Steer clear of exercise in hilly areas.
  • If the exercise program has been interrupted then a person should take a few days to ease back into the routine.
